After 24 years of waiting I have finally booked flights my flights to New York city... its. all. happening.
Meagan's Movie Alphabet
I have been neglecting my duties to this blog for another. I'm sorry you had to find out this way, I'm sure we can still be friends... if you love cinema, typography and minimal movie art combining the two that is. It's not that I don't like posting here anymore, it's just that I've been spending more time with Meagan's Movie Alphabet and find it more meets my needs, blog wise. Rest easy though, I will still post here on Meagan Approves Of, for my more fashion and music related posts. Here are some of my movie alphabet, come see, come follow and as always come like it, tweet it and pin it.

Lana Del Ray - Illustration
Ms. Del Ray has become quite a hot commodity as of late, the album may be wanting for some life and soul but you have to admit that girl's stylist has style. I predict everyone will be wearing bouquets of flowers in their hair very soon (its spring now don't you know). Anyway this is an illustration I have been working on since I saw the cover for her EP 'video-games' I have been chomping at the bit to draw those bee stung (allegedly false but oh so fab) lips of hers.
Using the EP cover as a guide I doodled her, after getting serious I started again drew the outlines in ink, brought into illustrator, cleaned up some lines, printed out, filled in finer details (hair, flower petals, shading) with pitt pens and black biro and some sharpie and then water colours, scanned in again, cleaned up the tones, added some background and voila!

Merry Christmas its Top Ten Time Part 1 - music
Ahh its that time of the year when everyone looks back and thinks "what was I thinking" and "how did i not catch that?" well I am here to fill you in on what I not everyone's popular opinion thought was the best in music movies and fashion this year, part one - music of the ladies
In no particular order my top ten music girls of the year are...
1. St.Vincent
You know when you see and artists face, not the song, just the face and instantly think "yeah dont like the look of that" and then have a bias for not liking them, this happened for me and Annie Mac, (it also happened for me and KT Tunstall for a good long while, those rainbow suspenders) but gladly I actually got to know her music this year and admmittedly I am able to say I judged the book cover and not the pages within. I love her now and especially the distorted guitar lick in this song.
Also check out anything she has done with the National, if she didnt have my heart before that fact was brought to light it is overwhelmed by her now, go Annie!
2. Kreayshawn
And I'm like Gucci Gucci, Louis Louis, Fendi Fendi, Prada!
who says white girls cant rap? Cos this gurrl has given street cred to white girls what Eminem did for white boys back in 1999... then again he was really the only good one, so maybe Kreayshawn will be too, ahh well I just love doing my gansta lean to this jam.
3. Anna Calvi
I have already said a bucket load on how awesome this lady and after having the privilege of seeing her play live twice this year (the video has a cameo of me in it there somewhere) I am glad to see her getting the air play and respect she deserves.
4. Sleigh Bells
Kick ass guitars and a slamming hottie, photographing Sleigh Bells this year was one of only 2 experiences Ive ever had snapping a gig where I couldnt figure out if I should be taking photos or just banging my head and enjoying myself ( the other was muse at my first arena gig).
5. Lykee Li
for ages i thought the song was "little pig" and not " a little bit" still seeing this lady live and listening to here sopehmore record shows just how much more there is to understand when it comes to her "wounded Rhymes"
6. Lana Del Ray
Is she a mythical unicorn or a fabricated my little pony, who cares when her voice just melts like caramel in your mouth, she has more than a few things in common with the Cadbury's Carmel Bunny I tell you.
7. Lisa Hannigan
Beautiful Irish voice done good, proving her first album was not a fluke of leftovers from her Rice days, keep up the good work Miss and Ill keep listening.
8. Best Coast
Drew Barrymore + Chloe from Kick ass + Maybee from Arrested Development + that really cute guy who played the lead in this video = a beautiful urban love story fitting with Bethanny's melodious tones. I love me some beach tunes.
9. Band of Skulls
Awesome guy girl grindy guitar combo here, they were hosting a night of there favourite videos on NME tv one night and picked out tune after tune that they loved and consequentially I loved so it only suited that I turned out to love them too.
10. The Kills
Another album another chance for the world to appreciate and see Alison Mosshart in her best musical form. Don't get me wrong I like her with Jack White, but the Kills is where I love her best.

Girl Wth Dragon Tatoo, Karen O, & a love for Dave Fincher's Title Sequences
![]() |
| Rooeny MAra looks like an amazing Lisbeth |
Even though this is a remake, I think Dave Fincher's translation will be an amazing addition to his stellar back catalog (Seven, Fight Club, Social Network) and good for him he re teamed with Trent Reznor for the aforementioned new feature after Reznor created the score for "The Social Network".
The stand out song so far has got to be the NIN frontman's cover of Led Zepplin's Immigrant Song with the ever renaissance woman Karen O. The song works wonders with what be a bleakly delicious feature and the new video for the song which is to be the opening credits for the movie looks on form to be another classic opening of Fincher feature. See Pitchfork.com for the full video.
Fincher seems to have a knack for 'cool' title sequences which graphic nerds like me love, check out his title sequence for 'Seven' and 'Fight Club', both use key elements from the respective plots without throwing the twisted baby out with the bath water.
I hope this gives you some idea of what movie David Fincher's "Dragon Tattoo" will be like style wise and that you like me will be queuing up in your reindeer jumper to watch it over the Christmas break.

Heathers and the Ashleys
Anyone remember Disneys cartoon "Recess"? How about the movie Heathers?
Meet the Ashleys, recognise the plaid shirts, the matching names and ruling popularity? of course you do because the group is clearly based on the 1980's movie Heathers. Copy and pasting but I like it, fair play to bring an iconic movie to the younger masses, this is imitation as the sincerest form of flattery at its finest (even if it is from Disney).
See also Mean Girls a more adapted version of Heathers but "fetch" nonetheless.
Also what its it with girl bully characters and plaid? see clueless too for evidence, maybe its because they are usually preppy or its just that wearing it makes you feel like a stuck up bitch you decide.
Truth is depending on your age you either remember one or the other as for me it took researching my new poster project "Bitches be Trippin" to realise the link between the two.

Overdue Post and 2 Snow whites
So sorry for the lack of communication as of late, lets just say my internet privileges have been quite restricted as of late c'est la vie and onto new business.
The film industry has a habit of when two people have a very similar idea for a movie and get breath of the other in production they decide to go head to head because getting there first is what its all about (no one wants to seem like a copycat) take for example the cases of 'Deep Impact' and 'Armagedon', 'Antz' and 'Bugs life', 'march of the penguins' and 'happy feet'. Sometimes it is a genuine coincidence that the same idea comes out at the same time, its called synchronicity, don't believe me look up my project "Train standing at platform two" where i look at some amazing coincidences and then there is this
The two films I am talking about today though are 'Snow White and the Huntsman' and 'Mirror, Mirror', both snow white films "with a twist on the fairytale". The two trailers arrived this week have a look.
In my opinion Hunstman has already got the edge over Mirror, Mirror because it looks visually stunning, the cgi is 24 carat gold (see what I did there) and it doesn't look like a typical fairytale (although it does have Kristen "I bite my lip and groan to act" Stewart but she doesn't say a word in the trailer, yippee). Mirror Mirror on the other hand looks more family friendly "funny" (to children) and has a dwarf saying "say hello to my little friend", pathetically lazy writing.
